Supported devices and platforms

BlinkID works on:

  iOS  Android

• iOS version 8.0 or newer

• iPhone 4s or newer

• iPad 3 or newer

• iPod touch 5th gen

• Android 4.1 or newer (API level 16)

• Camera autofocus

• Camera video preview resolution at least 480p

 • Compatible CPU architecture*

• Note: problematic on some devices**

* BlinkID on Android supports arm64-v8a, x86 and armeabi-v7a with NEON extensions. Armeabi-v7a CPU's without NEON extensions (e.g. NVIDIA Tegra 2) are not supported.

We decided to remove support for x86_64 processor architecture. x86 and x86_64 architectures are used on very few devices today; most of them are manufactured before 2015 and they take about 1% of all Android devices, according to the device catalog on Google Play Console. We distribute SDK with ARMv7, ARM64, and x86 native library binaries. Native library x86 in SDK is kept mainly for emulator support.

** Some Android devices are problematic for BlinkID due to hardware or software bugs in device itself. BlinkID either does not work on them at all or works, but not optimal. Here is a list of problematic devices:

  • LG P350 (LG Pegan)
    • problematic because it says it supports autofocus, but crashes when autofocus is requested from camera
  • HTC Wildfire
    • the image produced by its camera is of too low quality to perform successful recognition
  • Nexus 10 (2012)
    • if running Android 4.3, Android 4.4 or Android 5.0, it has a bug in camera driver causing camera inaccessible to all apps after performing recognition
    • this bug has been fixed in Android 5.1 and was not present in Android 4.2
